If you’re sticking with Deb based distros. Ubuntu Kubuntu - same as Ubuntu but kde Kde neon Pop_os
You might could try Manjaro. I have pretty good luck with it.
It’s not Deb or apr. But it has the aur.
Good luck op!

I use “gnome-disk-utility” for mounting disks.
Heck if I can get a computer to mount a drive on login… but “disks” let’s me do that easily.
Granted that might be different for your setup. So ymmv
I’ve been on Linux for ages and ages… back when I had to order CDs for new copies of Ubuntu.
Kde is the first desktop experience that I feel is the gold standard.
Every iteration of Linux I’ve used, solus, fedora, Ubuntu, Manjaro the DE I use is KDE.
I’m not sure why… but it makes sense to me and is my gold standard experience.
Started on Ubuntu in 09. - got the CD in the mail On kubuntu now
Ive bounced around all over arch, Manjaro, fedora, pop_os, mint but I always come back to kubuntu.
It just works for me.
I need to upgrade my computer soon… this crap makes me not want to go Nvidia again. (Running a looooong in the tooth 1060.)
Ah I don’t use that so I can’t speak to it.
