It’s like how there’s loads of different email providers but they can all still email each other.
Just like Gmail can send mail to Outlook and any other @EmailProvider.com, lemmy.world can populate it’s feed/comments from lemm.ee and any other @LemmyInstance.com
It’s more like “etiquette.” The downvote button serves to bury a comment or post, so it’s arguably best to use it as a “this isn’t relevant or is hateful/unproductive” button.

I never considered the backend could have different frontends. So is Ubuntu just a different desktop environment for Debian? Or is it like I could just install a different desktop environment on top of my old PC’s Ubuntu installation?
