Have you tried changing the default view from Columns to List? IMO it makes the UI much better. Then you can add in a more details about each PC on the main view. Make is very useful if you have a lot of computers you are managing.

You can also switch from the left bar interface to top bar interface. That looks better to me. Also dark mode.

Completely disagree. Meshcentral is amazing. I use it almost everyday. Sure it has some querks, and I am not a fan of the default layout but that is an easy change.

It is certainly not discontinued.

Yes Ylian (the developer) was laid off from Intel and later started working at Microsoft. But the project is still alive and well. (He owns the domain so he was able to keep the website alive. Another user (Si458) Has taken up alot of the development (30 commits this month ) and Ylian has also continued development although much less now he has a day job. (1 Commit this month)

The only thing that got discontinued was the publicly hosted server of MC. That was costing to much and it required to much maintenance now this became a side project. So you will need to self host it now.

If you drain the UPS past 50% it really kills the life of the batteries.

In the Enterprise you probably have generator backup. So the UPS only need to keep things running for 30 second to a minute. So that never happens.

When that person is a public figure I think it is news worthy. Because it won’t be one person but a handful. As I am betting alot of people who follow them will want to try it out as well.

Downside is if the public figure has a bad experience it will discourage many people from not even trying.

Maybe I have just had back luck but syncing my files across all of my devices has always burned me at some point. No matter what software I have used I have overwritten something by accident or I try and delete something and it doesnt get deleted on all device. Or get a bunch of conflicting files and now i need to figure out what file I want etc…

I do use some syncing but it is mostly between only two devices. Often times it is only a 1 way sync. For example photos on my phone get synced to my NAS automatically.

For me keeping all of my files in one place is the way to go. I just have everything on a NAS. (TrueNAS) All of my devices connect to that and i just edit them directly over the network.

I have a VPN for remote access.

Sure you can criticize as much as you want but if you are wrong in your criticism it just damages all of your criticism over all.

In my opinion it is important to state facts not fiction. This was not Microsoft’s fault, no matter how much you hate Microsoft it still wasn’t there fault and saying that is was is incorrect and doesn’t solve the issue.

Explicit Sync sounds like some kind of porn syncing program.

My guess is it has something to do with DRM protection in the HDMI spec. I have no proof but it seems like it is always DRM that screws over open source.

So my question is how many people are there who have a TV old enough to have no display ports but be of that outrageous specification

As far as I know no consumer TV has Display port.

I bought a TV maybe 2-3 years ago that supports 4K@120 and it doesn’t have a display port, only HDMI.

That I don’t know, I just know my territory in the US they are in every store that carries laptops.

I believe I have also seen them in Canada as well.

I know technically ChromeOS is running Linux under the hood but it has been so bastardized by Google that it looses the spirit of Linux that it shouldn’t be consider the same thing. At least in my opinion.

Sure but at least from my experience if the desktop hardware doesn’t support Windows we are already talking about a very obscure type of hardware that isn’t going to be mass deployed to the general public that would affect this user agent statistic.

Not sure, but I’ll say that if you use ChromeOS, you’re much more likely to buy special hardware (Chromebooks) to run it on. Not many people download ChromeOS to run on their pre-existing computers.

That is my point. Normal people are not downloading any OS and installing it on their computers. They are going to the local big box store or online store and buying a computer and using whatever that OS is preinstalled. In my neck of the woods those options are Windows, OSX and Chrome OS. There is no Linux computers at your local big box store. And I am sure you could find a Linux computer online if you specifically searched for it but Amazon is going to put the Linux computer on page 500 if you search for “Laptop”

Valve’s Steam Deck comes with Linux by default

Yeah the Steam Deck is the only thing the came to my mind that mainstream people would get that would have Linux pre-installed. However I can’t imagine it is the steam deck is selling anywhere near the numbers to what Chrome OS computers are selling and also these numbers are based on web browsing. Are people using their steam deck to browse the web? I have a Steam Deck and yes Gaming is amazing on it however if I am being honest the desktop experience is terrible I don’t know how they manage to make the on screen keyboard suck so bad. I would prefer browsing the web on my phone over the Steam Deck. The only way I would browse the web on the Steam Deck is if it was fully setup with a Mouse and Keyboard and External monitor.

Granted this is all just based of my single experience and small corner of the world view point. Maybe Linux is poping off in other parts of the world like in India with a huge population base.
