you could just design an alogorithm that heavily favors any posts physically close to you. the closer they are, the higher in your feed.
More like Hammer Industries
Also: “NixOS’s declarative configuration allows you to define your entire system configuration, including software packages, services, and system settings, in a single configuration file.”

We should invent new futuristic physical media. They should have real heft and ideally make a satisfying noise when you plug them in and be completely overegineered, so they last as long or longer as pottery. Something like upgraded MiniDisc, cassettes or USB sticks. If you plug it in, the device and the connector should be sturdy enough to stand on.
Maybe looking like this labeler cartridge:
Or like isolinear chips from Star Trek:
I know Microsoft is doing something similar with Project Silica.
Please anyone, if you can give examples from fiction or reality, I’m happy to hear it.
that’s genius
Honestly even if the Fediverse is mainly run by corporations, that is still 100x better than the non-fediverse. Mainly because the direct and immediate competition from other instances will keep them in check. You can’t pull removed like Reddit, when users could immediately leave and get an almost perfect substitute. And I believe there will always be a substantial amount of crowd or privately funded “community instances”, whose major goal is just good social media.
there are lead pills that cure this condition permanently
great, now how do I use it together with the ‘feather’ command?
I hate it when the chart doesn’t say what it depicts. I assume those are averages, not median. The average hides that fact that most people’s real income has barely grown in 20 years. All the income growth comes from the top 20% or so, you don’t see that in the average.
The most useless comparison. If you compare graphs like this created by fact checkers ideologically aligned with any of these parties you get completely different results.
And just by selectively choosing which claims you fact check, you can get whatever results you want for this graph. Just never publish any positive fact checks about one party and you can make them look as bad as you want.
“do not believe any statistic that you haven’t forged yourself"
There is no such thing as an objective fact checker, so their very existance is absurd.
I’ve joined 3 weeks ago and aside from a couple of images not being visible once in a while and my instance being down one day, I haven’t had issues at all. But I could easily create an account on another instance as backup and browse there.
Signup was a bit confusing at first because the apps are not 100% there yet, but in general the apps do everything you want them to 99% of the time. Only “powerusers” will be unsatisfied.
There is easily enough content to browse all day already and I’d say a lot of content isn’t even techie related or politically charged.
I’m just missing a few art subreddits, but that’s it, compared to Reddit it was a pretty easy transistion. I don’t miss it at all.
who would have thought that any disruption to one of the most corrupt and stagnant industries would lead to success
