I view the gaming distros as being about out of box. I don’t see anything improving performance outside of how the kernel compiles but I doubt any do anything special.

yeah I always looked at it as more of an out of the box thing being the idea. I mean really for all distros to some degree. To some degree people, I recognize there are other things but I can feel the heat of the torches from the pitchfork wielders already even before I post this.

if hes willing try zorinos. If that does not work I know of nothing easier. It comes with play on linux pretty well configured.

I go the opposite way. Why have a ton of people making the same tweaks when someone can just roll a distro with the tweaks at the get go. puppy linux was like an extreme version of this.

now I have to look up rancher. sounded like qubeos to me.

I don’t know of an easier or more beginner friendly distro than zorin.

I mean. does o365 not work or you specifically want to run the exe’s?

I understand the concern about the future and we have seen overbloated projects have issues. In the long run though I will use what works best for me and only get into philosophical comparisons if im making the choice between relatively equal options.

im not really a beginner myself but Im lazy and this point and just want a system up and running asap. if I was not using it I would likely use puppy because I like the read only core.

https://zorin.com/os/ its an out of the box distro that specifically tries to emulate the windows feel. In particular it has play on linux installed by default making running windows programs when needed as easy as it can be. the out of the box is office type stuff really though so you will have to install blender and such.

I actually stopped watching when I stopped wathing most over the air. the problem is the streaming free options being to convoluted with the gatekeeping. once I miss epsiodes im just sorta out.

As much as im a foss person I could see if failing on “merits” in the sense it started in 2003. SuSE might have been worked out but they took 10 years and if at that point they were still using something decided in 2003 it was bound to be messed up. Seriously we are talking when open office was nascent and star office was a thing.

Im not sure but I have a suscpicion linux folks don’t like its thing about being windows like as possible. Personally anything to get folks to uptake foss is great in my book. I actually use portable apps and would like to get farther away from it. Im going to look into the q40s thing suggested here as that might be a perfect next step.

I really wish the framework had an easy to replace screen the way the other components are. some sort of lock in place kind of thing.

Im a big zorin fan. Its an out of the box distro that focuses on windows compatiblity. that means it comes with tons of preinstalled apps so that you can do things right away like edit docs or watch videos but it also comes with well configured play on linux so that there is a good chance you can run any needed windows programs that you need to. Maybe people graduate out to more unixy stuff but its funny. Im a tech guy but in my personal life I just want to install and go. https://zorin.com/os/
