Very old comment, but my 2 cents: sorting by extension instead of MIME type. I don’t want my jpegs, gifs and pngs mixed up when I tell PCMan, Thunar or Dolphin to sort by type. It annoys me to no end that something Windows has had since at least 95, most distros’ default file explorers don’t.

Option 2: a Windows XP Paint clone. Seriously, all the paint clones you can get on Linux, like gnome paint, just don’t work properly
I mean, Wayland is still a hot topic, as are snaps and flatpaks. Years ago it was how the GTK2 to GTK3 upgrade messed up Gnome (not unlike the python 2 to 3 upgrade), some hardcore people still want to fight against systemd. Maybe it’s just “the loud detractors”, dunno

Unix already had a significant presence in server computers during the late 80s, migrating to Linux wasn’t a big jump. Besides, the price of zero is a lot more attractive when the alternative option costs several thousand dollars
Why does it feel that Linux infighting is the main reason why it never takes off? It’s always “distro X sucks”, “installing from Y is stupid”, “any system running Z should burn”

I’m a mod in a telegram group (not piracy oriented). Pretty much every other day comes in a clueless idiot asking, ipsis literis, “what’s the best printer?”
Ask said idiot what they want to print and you’re met with one of two: silence or “I wanna print some stuff”. What stuff? “Oh just a couple of stuff first, you know” - They want a printer without having a removeding clue of anything and they’re always surprised to know that resin printers are a thing.
Depends on which old format you mean. The late 90s php-bbs is rare, but you can still find some of them around, I think the forums for the Commander X16 (a new retro computer) uses that style, or something closer to 2004-ish.
Linux was in its infancy back then, being “just another flavor” of Unix with “little to tell it apart” (other than being free, like 386BSD). Linus Torvalds began working on his flavor of Unix because MINIX (a micro variant of Unix, aimed at students) licensing didn’t allow one to freely distribute it. He also changed internal programs to GNU alternatives wherever possible. The GNU Project was already rolling since 1983, so it already a significant quantity of software written.
Another thing to keep in mind, the internet was still very small, connection was slow and expensive by the time the book came out. The majority of software distribution happened with physical media, like floppy disks and, later on, CDs. Mailing lists and usenet forums could instantly send messages back and forth, but uploading and downloading stuff was severely limited.
So, Linux didn’t immediately kill commercial Unix (MacOS has Unix roots, some big companies might still use Solaris), but it being completely free allowed it to “evolve and proliferate like a virus”, much like Unix before it.
How long would it take to compile their Rust microkernel alone compared to a similar one done in C? There are many posts around the web complaining about Rust’s long compile times, though thankfully rarely as slow as C++

Use Grub2Win (https://sourceforge.net/projects/grub2win/) whenever Windows manages to break dual booting. It’ll stop removeding up afterwards, as it’ll be installed within one of the windows boot partitions.
This is not about “old computers” in general, this is about a specific set of consumer graphics cards that are not needed for any of those things you mentioned.
Also worth noting: a core2duo is from around 2006. These dropped cards are from the late 90s.
