Yeah absolutely zero newbies are going to buy a new computer in order to test out Linux.
I use KdenLive on Mint whenever I need to edit a video. I’ve never bothered to look for the other two because I use Darktable and GIMP for my photo editing, but I can check to see if they’re available if you want me to.
Flatpak “containerizes” the program, which makes it more secure and less able to accidentally mess up other programs. removed if I know how it works.
Also you don’t have to type in your password every time you want to update the program, so that’s nice.
Only if you keep reminding people that Medicare for All would be cheaper than our current system.
Mint is aimed at normies. The fewer barriers to entry, the better. If you give users the option for a “clean” install there will be people who select it, not knowing what they’re doing, and then end up with a borderline non-functional computer as far as they’re concerned. To put it another way, they expect it to have stuff pre-installed. Finally, what counts as essentials and what counts as bloat? Text editor? Media player? Photo viewer? Internet browser?
That being said, I understand why you might not like getting extra programs you didn’t ask for. Luckily, they’re very easy to uninstall and forget about.
I don’t have anything to add but I wanted to say those are all good points.
I find your take on that data to be super weird, given that Lemmy has 10x the number of monthly active users than writefreely. We’re not going to be beating Reddit anytime soon, but we’ve got a decent little community going.
I keep QWERTY available with the super+spacebar shortcut on both platforms, that way anyone else who needs to use it can switch back. Also, I have see-through Dvorak stickers added so it’s pretty clear that something is up with my keyboard just by looking at it. It also helps with finding those random symbol characters you use twice a year.
It really is worth the switch.
As a non-technical user: removeding love it.
Is the chrome OS not full-fledged? I used it once ten years ago. Seemed fine.
They’re also security hotspots and the value you’re trying to attract is physical currency. The chances of getting caught is pretty high.
I found it absolutely amazing they claim my pretty decent laptop from 2016 can’t run Windows 11. Laptops haven’t gotten that much better since then. Also, supposing it actually couldn’t, it’s a removeding operating system. It should be doing everything it can to stay out of the way. What kind of bloated monstrosity is Windows 11 that my laptop can’t run it?
Well, that and because humans kinda suck in general.
For sure, which is why I only use Mint anyway. I need my hand held. But Linus was doing power-user things without power-user reading. You can’t really claim the car is no good when you opened the hood and started swapping hoses without checking to see what goes where.
