My kids plays Roblox, it doesn’t run as well as it does bare metal
I ran Linux in VirtualBox for years but it’s just not the same as running from bare metal. The step to bare metal is the key to actually starting to make the move to Linux for me
Get a second drive and install Linux on it. You can then flick between the two on boot. I’ve done this and now booting into Arch more than Windows. I’ll still boot into Windows for reasons but Arch is my main OS now.
I wouldn’t say hot is great either. Just testing now and the third post is a NSFW post that’s 43 minutes old, has 5 votes and 0 comments.
Top seems to work best for me but I do have to pick 24, 12 or 6 hour.
I know it comes with more users. But the default filter on Sync for Lemmy (Active) means I see the same post at the top of my feed for 2 days! Previously on Reddit that would change like the wind changes direction.
That is an important fix. I’m surprised this wasn’t found before 6 even released.
It’s similar to an issue I have on Plasma 5 where if I am playing a game with a game pad, the screen would go off due to inactivity. It’s a known old bug. I wish they would fix it.
Oh here it is. Only 11 years old…
Last time I mentioned it someone posted the bug report for it (KDE). It was like 5 years old or something
I like Plasma but the bug where the OS goes to sleep when using a joypad is pretty frustrating. It’s an old bug now too.
Not a dumb title,.just purposely “click bait”
Yeah, I don’t recall seeing that and installed it about four times.
I started this way today but kept coming up with an error with rsync during install. I tried in Virtual Box and had the same error. I gave up and just installed Fedora in the end.
Weird. I’ve been trying to find a distro I’m happy with and was setting Fedora KDE up today. Ran though my bookmarks and found no videos played on Twitch. Had to install codecs to get it to work. I hadn’t seen this in previous distros. Is this specific to Fedora? Other than this hiccup I’ve enjoyed it so far.
I liked how straight forward Linux Mint is but prefer KDE Plasma. Plus Mint seems quite far behind in versions.
My wife changed her Windows work laptop last week. Her Desktop is synced to OneDrive so really she just needs to login. Despite that she was panicking that her PDF’s were gone. They weren’t, it’s just that the new laptop has a newer version of Adobe Reader which uses an updated icon.
Some people are just tech illiterate and the slightest difference can be upsetting. My mum’s the same with her phone. Using Google Maps to navigate is an achievement for her and I’ve been telling her to use it for years. The first time she did she reached her destination literally shaking. She was also amazed with herself that she had done it.
I tried Linux for years but always have to go to the terminal for something. There’s a reason it’s a default application on every distribution. The CLI can be daunting for the unfamiliar but it’s actually very powerful.
I was all over Edge when it was in beta. Since release though it’s just become bloated with Microsoft’s removed. Not to mention in Windows Microsoft has a removeding hard-on for making it the default browser. Even if you don’t, Outlook defaults to using it regardless.
I’ve used Chrome since the beginning and moved from Firefox. I’ve been happy. I’d still be happy but now I’m back on Firefox because of Google’s intentions. It’s led me to start to move away from Google as a whole. Moved my emails and search to DuckDuckGo.
It’s going to be hard to move away from other services. Maps and YouTube for example.
Windows has had SSH built in for a while now
I’ll give EndeavourOS a try then. Thanks.
I tried Pop as it seemed highly recommended.
I’m in the same boat. I’d like to leave Windows but since installing POP!_OS I’ve had issues with ending up with two versions of Firefox installed (yes snap and yes I’ve fixed that now). My Yubikey can’t be detected until I found a post by another user with a fix. I am still yet to find a way to get VRR working.
There’s no doubt that a lot of issues are user related but honestly I don’t have this much trouble with Windows. This isn’t the first time I’ve tried Linux and each and every time I find issues that I normally just give up on and revert back to Windows. I am trying though, I even purchased a second SSD dedicated for Linux.
I gotta say though Valve’s proton software is amazing and without it I probably wouldn’t be trying so hard to leave Windows as my primary game doesn’t have native Linux support.
Wireguard works out of the box for me. I use a docker image.
