Go setup a Linux on a spare hard disk and fail as many times as you can.

Don’t fail twice because of same issue.

That’s all it takes to learn any skill really.

You can search online how to fix things, reach out to this community with logs. Over time you will learn how not to fail from many pitfalls, and voila, you are now a champion.!

I have had bad luck in the past where my drive would not spin up at boot for some reason. I end up modifying the fstab file with a live boot USB and then start the system with revised FSTAB.

Just my 2 cents that would help in case of a dead lock situation.

I went with jellyfin because it’s free and open-source. I have never used Plex, but there are few issues with Plex that I had noted as cons

1. Your authentication happens through Plex servers and not locally
2. Alongside your own content, Plex pushes other content as well , etc etc.

However, there is one con in Jellyfin, the clients are not as polished as it is for Plex.

Off topic. Can I suggest you to also explore Jellyfin instead of Plex? Just give it a shot before you pay to Plex folks is all I am asking. Use whichever you find better.
