And slrpnk has an automated bot now that bans and unbans people. Again, from a community I don’t even recognize (pleasant politics? huh?).
It’s what is called guessing. The author isn’t saying “this is how it is, it’s fact”. They are postulating and guessing. But you read it and take it as if this was a scientific paper published in a journal with a dataset = 20 or something.

Bluesky plans to generate revenue via subscriptions at some later point and by providing other paid services, like access to custom domains.
This looks like a very important point. I doubt we’ll see true federation with “access to custom domains”.
I never really considered there’d be useful content on there.
I don’t really get why people scroll through short-form video, but at least there’s an opensource alternative in the works… Will be interesting to see if they allow non-loops users to contribute bandwidth because hosting all of those videos will be expensive af.
I just block anybody posting news about USAmerican politics and any community/magazine focused on it. It weeds out USAmericans and their sympathisers.

I think, possibly like many others, since BlueSky came from the creator of Twitter, I do not trust it. At the moment, I don’t even think there’s anything anybody can say about it that would make me want to even test it. It just feels tainted.
Also, what is BlueSky promising? A new Twitter? The fediverse is making so much more possible: new Twitter(s), new Youtube, new Instagram, new Reddit, and it’s even being put into Wordpress, maybe even Tumblr, and who knows what else. How does BlueSky fit into that puzzle?

Man, Mozilla used to be nice but they have just turned so removed. I hope the core firefox people quit and make a new browser so that I can donate directly to the new browser instead of some middle man (or woman right now) who siphons off the money (aka Mozilla).
Because in real life I don’t like people looking over my shoulder at everything I do and digital snooping is the same (or worse).

For users, maybe, not for content creators. They still want to get paid and on the fediverse, the only thing you can rely on right now is people going through the hassle of clicking on a donate button, opening a third party website, logging in there, and following the procedure to donate. On youtube it’s just, users just have to watch videos.

I still use Instagram. I will not use Instagram if it had activitypub support.

That seems quite easy to game. Create a bunch of accounts across multiple instances, target a user you don’t like, find comments / posts with low vote counts and downvote all of those. That’ll skew the ratio and get them “preemtively” banned from communities that use that bot.
