While contributing is great, the BSDs are kinda dying and it’s probably better to spend that effort elsewhere. Even TrueNAS is leaving the BSD space. The fact that most applications are shipping via docker/Flatpak/snap etc. and that BSD does not have a good solution for those does not bode well for BSD.
There just really isn’t that much development for BSD anymore. Everyone who wasn’t on Linux is moving over to it.

Arch with Plasma
The tdrop program that let’s you interact with any terminal as if it were a dropdown terminal doesn’t work in Wayland, and it just isn’t the same to open a terminal in the normal way, is lame. Foot is a good terminal for sure but I want the dropdown effect.

It’s its own terminal but I find it to be pretty good and it works with Wayland.
Did you have electron/chrome applications flicker? I’ve been dealing with that since switching to Nvidia (I didn’t want to but Plex only supports GPU encoding on Linux with Nvidia).
TVs don’t have DisplayPort. I just bought a new TV, none of the options I looked at had display port.

Everyone is fear mongering over this. It’s the same removed how windows 10 didn’t officially support a bunch of systems but you could install it anyway.
Isn’t the reason everyone says they use Gentoo is because of “all the optimisations” but if you’re not compiling for your specific hardware doesn’t that go out the window?

Gnome is the desktop environment. You may have gnome already installed if that’s what your OS uses, otherwise you probably have KDE. There are others but those are the 2 big ones.
The Desktop Environment is what gives the OS its look, and typically which GUI programs are installed by default.
Every time you’re excluding something you’re excluding updating a package, while updating all the others. Then if the new packages depend on the newer version of the package you didn’t upgrade by excluding it, things break. That’s what’s happened here. Every time you use exclude to upgrade something you’re essentially breaking your system worse. That’s what the other person means by “partial upgrading”
And now that message says it’s going to completely remove your desktop environment so you’re gonna have no desktop, just a cli shell.
At this point the easiest thing would probably be to back up your home directory and whatever else you want to keep and just reinstall the system. Any other process to try and fix it is going to require more trouble and time than it would take to just reinstall unfortunately. There may not even be a way to successfully unbreak your system.

Oh that’s pretty nifty, thanks for the comment. Sorry wasn’t trying to minimize the tool, I was simply referring to the orchestration/config management aspect of it when I looked it up real quick.
I used to be responsible for configurations of 40,000 (yes forty thousand) VMs for a large company using puppet and then later using Ansible and that was an interesting challenge. I’ve been out of the configuration management game for a few years now though so I’m pretty out of the loop. Was familiar with spacewalk back in the day too.

Maybe for some logs but no, systemd logs are stored in binary format and can only be accessed with journalctl. I would definitely give that command a shot.
It was a kernel regression that caused the issue, not sure that is entirely their fault. I would think that’s more on AMD and the kernel devs.
They’re talking about packages you install, not the ISOs.
