and you should be set. Depends of course on whether you want them to be able to run programs and stuff…
Hopefully people in India are spreading the world of Linux. Blessed they be.
A daily reminder: removed NVIDIA
Microsoft is a big contributor to the Linux kernel. It would probably not be in their interest to tank it as they’d lose customers from Azure.
But who knows, they might be stupid enough to try.
Looks like tablet mode on android to me.
Just download any mainstream distro and it will be fine!
That is already a step too far. If it doesn’t come pre-installed, the majority will not use nor know how to install it. I bet a bunch of people don’t even know what an OS is. If you replaced windows with some riced KDE desktop on the majority of user’s computers, most would think it’s an update and would go on with their lives.
Definitely. If it doesn’t or if a CLI has to be opened for a single thing, the majority will not use it.
Yep, if it looks slick, works, and comes standard, people will use it. Just like cars for me: I just want to use it, not understand how it works in order to use it.
You don’t need a unified version, you need easily accessible linux hardware (desktop, laptop, phone, etc.). People do not give a swimming removed about which OS they’re using. Whatever’s on their hardware will become their main OS.
https://puri.sm https://slimbook.es https://system76.com/ https://tuxedocomputers.com , they are all doing a good job of leading the charge and trying to occupy most segments, but what they lack is still QA, ease of use, and most importantly marketing and support from the linux community. They need to dump huge amounts of money into marketing (which they probably don’t have) and the linux community should altogether stop buying bullremoved pseudo-supported linux laptops from Dell, Lenovo, and HP.
There are linux shops out there. Stop giving your money to other companies and wishing on linux dominance. It’s nonsensical.
Leave ubuntu behind. Their snap fixation is toxic.
Uses NVIDIA
Imaaaagine!
Seriously though, I feel for you. NVIDIA is removed and while you’re dealing with this, I hope you know which vendor you’ll not be giving money to in the future. removed NVIDIA.
Don’t know where you live, but check https://linuxpreloaded.com/ , https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/?refID=dwsp, and https://starlabs.systems/ for linux laptops.
If those don’t suite you, find a laptop then have a look at https://linux-hardware.org/ to check if it’s supported.
Curious, but good news. Hopefully it doesn’t reverse. We could do with less macs and windows machines.
“You want to game on your mac? Install Linux” is coming…
I am impressed nobody called OP a noob and told him to “RTFM”. Good job y’all! Keep being a positive force.
AMD has better hardware support because they are more active in contributing than intel. Also, they have overtaken intel in terms of efficiency (price per watt, price per Hz)
You sound like a petulant dweeb
Mommay, a stranger on the internet insulted me! My feelings are so hurt.
Because people treat apple as if it’s the pinnacle of design, performance, and usability. People who want to game on their hardware should have it so hard that they will take anything they can to make that possible on that hardware. If Linux becomes that thing that makes it all possible, so much so that it becomes common knowledge “if you want to game on a mac, install linux”, then finally some fruit worshippers could possibly see what surrounds them instead of their myopic view of their fruit god.
Mac missed the gaming train two decades ago.
It’s never too late for a corporation of their size to wake up one day and decide “well, now there’s some kind of a reason to make gaming on mac possible”. I can only hope that if they’re pushed to that, that linux is so far ahead that it becomes difficult to get back their followers. If by some miracle Valve decides to invest in making linux work on mac, there would be two giants in the game.
But only time will tell…
