  • Right? At this point I’m just sticking with WordPress because I can’t be bothered to migrate a bunch of sites off of it. Every year for the past decade it’s felt jankier. Tumblr’s backend has to be a dumpster fire for this to seem like a good idea.

My criticism aside, WP still has the convenience factor of being the open source web platform that has a plugin for just about any need. Whether those plugins are gonna break for site or introduce interesting new vulnerabilities is a different discussion.

  • I actually very recently tried it. I’m sure it’s great but something about the UI or maybe general paradigm switch versus apps like Notion really confused me. It looks great though, so I’m sure I’ll give it another go sometime when I have a bit more time to really learn it. Nonetheless, I appreciate the recommendation!

  • Sounds nice, but why use an Nvidia card in a purpose-built Linux box? Obviously they must have made it work well with their default OS options, but it just feels like extra hurdles for them to work through.

Also, why not support AMD for actually appearing to give a removed about Linux open-source drivers? I was a longtime Nvidia user but switched to AMD on my latest build. Given how much better everything seems to work out of the box, they’ve earned my loyalty for the foreseeable future.

  • This is an excellent point. My benchmark for something like this is, “What would cause my wife to migrate from Reddit to Lemmy?” The answer is a Digg-level fiasco where the majority of users leave.

Those of us who already swore off Reddit in favor of this platform are vastly the exception. Most people follow the herd when it comes to social media.

That said, as much as I’d love to see a larger userbase and more active niche communities here, I’m quite happy with our incremental growth. The fediverse feels a lot more like the community of the early internet, which is something I really missed.
