Yeah, sure, I hope so. But, qksms doesn’t appear to be a priority for the developer (which is understandable considering many do not choose to support the dev with donations, etc)

That’s hardly what I would call abandoned. Abandoned would mean going years without any update.
You would have to get the oldest release supporting that android version. Only the initial release appears to support that. You can check here: https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Apps/releases?page=2
But, I would recommend other apps like QKSMS.
Can somebody share a list of apps which benefit from this? I hardly use Github and most of my apps come from Fdroid, or play store.
No, only one store can update the app at the time. If even one is available in both apps
It won’t be updated from fdroid, that’s all. If you mistakenly add fdroid signed apps to the list, you could miss some updates. But that’s reversible. No permanent downside as far as I know.
If an app is present in the izzydroid repo, it can be updated from the fdroid and play store because the signatures match. You can add those them to a list of non-updatable apps
Lemmy is the new way of life. Reddit is the toxic ex.
That secure ssl was an android requirement. You need a web browser if you want to bypass that. Apps using webview can not do that by default unless they opt in. You can try to open a bug report and see if they do that.
