Yup. I’ve never done anything besides installing NVIDIA drivers. Just switching the cable of the secondary monitor to the motherboard ports and it just worked. No reboot even, just making sure that adaptive sync is enabled in KDE or wherever.

VRR does not work if you have a NVIDIA card and more than one monitor enabled.

I recently learned that’s not entirely correct for Wayland. The critical thing is that VRR stops working if more than one enabled monitor is connected to the NVIDIA GPU. Meaning that if you connect only one display to the NVIDIA GPU and the other monitors to the integrated GPU it should just work.

I felt pretty stupid when I realized that I could’ve just switched a single cable and be using VRR way earlier. Didn’t even need a reboot to work. For reference, I’m using a NVIDIA GPU + AMD CPU with 1 G-Sync as my main monitor and one non-VRR as my secondary monitor.

Also good to know what causes those seams. I’ve noticed it in some consoles, but never bothered to check why exactly that is.

Different person, but I started using vertical tabs a few weeks ago and gave both extensions a try for a few days.

I’m using Sideberry now. It seems more polished to me with lots more features. I particularly like how well it integrates with Firefox containers and that you can create tab groups, which are essentially tabs for tabs.

Pivoting+tilting+swivelling VESA wall mounts are also a thing, so you wouldn’t have needed to choose the display based on its stand

I personally wouldn’t have risked my monitor on being able to design a part that is able to last just to save the few bucks a mount costs. So props to you, I guess.

Not to mention that most sites will put their main content into a container with a limited width anyway, since overly long lines are awful to read. So unless you’re using the browser side-by-side with other content on a low-res monitor it’s a net benefit. And even if it’s not I usually find the extra vertical space to be worth more, as you said.

The lifecycle of Win10 is actually pretty similar to that of the previous versions, which is about ~10 years. The only difference with Win10 is that it went without a successor for so long, that they’ve basically skipped one major release, leading to this relatively small timeframe between a new Windows and the EOL of the previous version.

I agree though. Given the circumstances they should’ve made an an exception and increased the lifespan for at least one or two years.

People will turn everything into a Discord server nowadays, no matter how bad of a match it is. I’ve even seen a Github project disabling their Issue tracker in favor of Discord, which is completely insane to me.

Not sure how well this would actually work, but couldn’t the admins “copy” the instance to the new domain and then initiate an account migration from the old to the new instance for every account? That should both push out the account transfer to all the other instances and preserve the post history as well.

Since the end goal is to post a video to YouTube, you will have to create a video file. Personally I would probably just be lazy and upload the large file, since YouTube is going to reconvert the video anyway.

That said, to optimize the file you need to know how videos work, specifically key frames. Speaking generally, when a video gets encoded, it doesn’t add the whole image for each frame. Instead, it only does that when the current frame is a key frame, and then only stores the difference to the previous frame for every regular frame. There’s a lot of different strategies when placing keyframes, like every X seconds, when the scene changes, or both. This is usually you can change somewhere in the encoding settings of the application you’re using. You will need to use a codec/format that supports interframe compression though, so avoid AVI and MJPEG.

So the TL;DR is: Try to decrease the amount of key frames as much as possible, maybe even down to only one if possible.

Same. I’m sitting here with a RTX 3080, so upgrading makes even less sense. I haven’t really encountered many problems, at least on X, but Wayland support is still a mess and I’m really missing VRR, which isn’t really a thing when using a multi-monitor setup on X.

Given how things have been increasingly picking up speed lately I’m hopeful that it’ll only take a few more months until I can say goodbye to X and hello to Wayland and VRR.

Yup. It’s actually quite ironic that this person is advocating to learn how operating systems work, but has seemingly refused to learn the slightest bit about the Windows ecosystem.

Probably because there exists a bit of a rift in the technical term ‘algorithm’ and how it’s commonly used in discourse. Technically it describes both:

1. An open-source algorithm that assigns a simple score based on votes, score and age, where two users subscribing to the same communities will always have the same result.
2. A hidden algorithm that’s based on an unknown amount of invisible variables, many of which are based on user-tracking, and tries to maximize time-spent at all costs.

While OP (hopefully) intended the former, most people immediately think of the latter when the term is used. Personally I’d like to see an implementation of the former as well, as a simple way to get up speed on the most important things that happened over night for example, before switching back to chronological timeline.

What you’re seeing in the Video is pretty much what the start menu will look like after a clean install of Windows 11, minus Audacity and Chrome.

Are you talking about Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code? Although there’s a lot of overlap in functionality, they are two completely different products and only VS Code has a native version. Regular VS on the other hand I’ve never seen running on Linux.
