As it should be IMHO. Nothing is stopping you dropping cash for removed in the untracked economy which is massive but if you want to be a part of the larger system and all its benefits you need to be prepared to play by the rules that are designed by and large to protect people.
7$ a dozen now from the farmer down the street from my parents. Inflation is wild!
Linux absolutely isn’t perfect, no technology is. But in my years of experience with both, Linux on the whole is far less finicky, and far easier to fix when it breaks.
I agree 110% but it’s also worth mentioning that windows isn’t as finicky as we complain about. If it was, companies wouldn’t by and large rely on it. People are delusional if they think Windows is only around because of some conspiracy or historical precedent. “It works” plain and simple. As you scale you’re going to run into issues regardless of the OS. It’s naive to think Linux is the be all that end all. As much as anyone I want to be Linux only. My home computers have been Linux for decades now. I’m a realist. There’s value and challenges with every OS. I hate the industry trend of Windows over Linux but I get it
Snake if writing in python
Camel if writing in PowerShell
I tend to stick with what the language wants me to use.
If you’re serious about monitoring your removed this is really the best answer. Zabbix is love. Zabbix is life.
Solaris brings back memories lol. Haven’t touched one of those in decades!
What’s wrong with a “right-wing” community? I’m not right wing but I’m definitely not afraid of them. Anything can be solved with education. Why would you censor based on what side of the political spectrum you’re on?
This is evil. I love it.
See and I see it more as in modern times where it’s a simple figurehead.
I would disagree and say it’s more akin to a philosopher king hence less anarchy and more monarchy. It’s all good until the king dies and let’s see who succeeds them.
It will be most telling when Linus dies.
Herein lies the rub where the discourse online always fails. It’s easy to blame the rich, corporations, politicians, etc. but the end of the day they’re simply doing what the masses want. We are the problem.
Now that said, I understand the appeal of blaming a smaller segment of the population because it’s easier to shift blame and it’s easier to force change that way, but rest assured Apple stops making a new phone every year their brand dies unless everyone stops doing it. They’re doing it because we are conditioned to want it.
We are the underlying problem. All of us.
Edit - having my point proven is amazing.
OS2/Warp
IBM showed us there could be a superior OS that wasn’t Windows or Mac. Been chasing that dragon ever since.
One account! Own your depravity! Lol
Also to add the Indian market is so saturated any “good one” you get knows their worth and dip out at the first opportunity. Leaves giant companies left holding the bag on a model that has skeleton crews containing all the tacit knowledge with no means to do anything. “Oh well just bring in vendors to do xyz” ignoring the operational cost going forward. The current business model employed by fortune 500 companies was and is unsustainable. Great for their bottom line though.
Underpay and overwork their Indian workers like a motherremoveder.
Return to office is mandated back to 5 days a week and 9 hours a day minimum at some of these places. The company makes bank but the workers get cents on a dollar.
We use TCS and Accenture at my work and I’m aware of us using Cognizant and HCL as well. You’re bang on removed all those companies and also “first world” compankes for removeding the local employment market and removeding overseas workers.
Race to the bottom. Nothing matters but the bottom line.
Not missing the point. I know it’s satire. As a thought experiment it got me interested though nothing more.
Ignoring you’re right there are plenty of instances where a common name would carry over multiple install options.
What I’d rather is to allow two parameters. The tool should be included as well as the package so ‘install apt openjdk’ or ’ install npm yarn’
Of course the problem then becomes a lot of these install apps have their own set of parameters.
Now I’m curious if anyone has written a universal installer.
