Depends on the given software but kernel edits for instance need to be public. That’s why Android is open source
Since this is their Cloud software I imagine they need to provide their source to customers.
It might just have been easier to push the whole of the open source side than it would be to pick and choose
They wouldn’t release it if they weren’t obligated to
Apologies, I mean this
You didn’t seem to understand my question
Dismissing all but Rust is a joke
Saying Go is better than R at things R isn’t used for is a joke because it’s obvious and someone doing this in R would just draw the question of why even though they could
Why dismiss all languages that aren’t rust?
Because R would be weird for this use case hence Go being better for it
Go is pretty cool, better than R
Me updating my system then updating Flatpak because the gpu driver difference breaks everything
It’s just blocking the urls, if you block the ones that Windows use then it will
Gimp and Blender are Linux software
DaVinci Resolve has a Linux version
Code OSS (or VSCode is you want Windows telemetry included) works
a working file explorer
Not an issue, you can use Dolphin on Windows if you wanted
NO removedIN ADS

The things I missed are ones I know nothing about
The community is Linux not Gnu + Linux. So Google + Linux counts
The article also isn’t about Gnu + Linux
To avoid being sanctioned themselves
It’s helpful to follow if you want to deal with the US government
I thought your comment was more ridiculous
1 person making a query has thousands of hours of computing behind it
1 person compiling software themselves does not
Society favours the short term and it will be a long time before Linux sys admins are cheaper than Windows sys admins
Or even asking random kid out of high school how to do x
It’s cheaper to find support
You might find something that works better or worse in Wayland, it’s not really a big deal
Does bloat actually matter or is it just a meme?
Both, the little things don’t matter but you can fill up your resources with bloat if you wanted.
Any habits or standards that I should abide by in order to save myself headaches in the future?
Update unless you have a reason not to
What do you wish you knew when you first started using Linux that would have saved you a headache in the future?
Sym-links
Nvidia drivers should be automatic
Yes wayland works but I don’t use it
On the log in screen you will have an option if both are installed (typically)
Can’t answer but this exists https://github.com/rockerbacon/modorganizer2-linux-installer
Proton works with any system, if you’re having difficulties with games using it then that will likely carry over unless it’s a performance bottleneck
Yes and no; there are linux anti-cheats. But a lot of devs just block Linux - Easy anti-cheat has a Linux version but Fortnite doesn’t use it. I can play Fall Guys if I stop it from downloading Epic’s authentication
Shhh, they’ll hear you
And they can easily say it’s Mozilla’s fault
